The Bangladesh Centre for Refugee Legal Studies (BCRLS) is pleased to announce the International Conference on Evolving Refugee Protection Architectures in South Asia 2026—a premier academic platform dedicated to advancing critical discourse on refugee law and protection mechanisms across the region.

Seminar on Foundations of Refugee Law

The Bangladesh Center for Refugee Law Studies (BCRLS), in collaboration with the Department of Law and Land Administration, Jagannath University, successfully hosted an academic seminar titled “Foundations of Refugee Law: Principles, Protection, and Contemporary Challenges.” We were also honored by the participation of Meftahul Hasan (Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Jagannath University) as Special Guest, who contributed to the academic depth and engagement of the seminar. The program brought together students, researchers, and participants who actively engaged in discussions, making the session both interactive and impactful. The seminar served as an important platform for advancing awareness and academic dialogue on refugee law in Bangladesh. BCRLS extends its sincere appreciation to Istiak Ahmed Efat and Shihab Ul Haque for their dedicated efforts in organizing and coordinating the event, and to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement.

From the Founder’s Desk

"Since my graduation, I have developed a sustained interest in International Refugee Law (IRL), guiding my academic and professional pursuits, and inspiring the creation of a platform to cultivate informed and critically engaged scholars. Recognizing Bangladesh’s position as a non-signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, this initiative explores context-specific protection approaches while contributing to the broader international refugee protection regime. Through seminars, lectures, and research-driven activities, it aims to strengthen intellectual engagement with IRL in Bangladesh."
